The challenge with this image is to find something significant to use as a subject. The pier post partially covered with sea debris is not compelling, and has too much contrast.

The strong lighting brings out the detail on the pier. The image is strong as reportage but for a contest needs to have an extra element. The bottom half has many distracting features, which could be changed with either reframing or changing the depth of field.
