Weft
puller stick is used to pass horizontally weft through back and forth
warps, while carpet weaving. Its length varies between 40 to 80 cm.
and its width is 2 cm. It has a hook at the end to catch yarn butt of
weft.
In
some parts of Azerbaijan (Shabestar), it is called "Shish".
In Kashan and some other centers of carpet weaving, this stick is not
used at all and weft-pulling is done by hand, which is very difficult
and scratches hands.
How
to use: Weft puller stick should be passed repeatedly among warps, all
through the width of warp, from hooked end; after hanging the butt of
weft into stick hook, slowly pull it toward the edge, so that yarns
stay exactly over knots.
