Fred Parhad

Fred Parhad was born in Baqdad, Iraq, in 1947. He rejected formal education in art at the University of California at Berkeley and moved to New York. There, he worked in art foundries and received permission from Metropolitan Museum to sit and sculpt copies of their extensive Assyrian collection.

He was commissioned by Assyrian Foundation of Arts to cast bronze monument, larger than life-size, of Assyrian King Ashurbanipal. It was presented to the City of San Francisco in 1988 and installed at United Nations Plaza.

He has completed monument of Sumuramat for the City of Chicago and then worked on Hammurabi for Detroit.
