Any attempt at urban
planning, or intervention in the process of design and
planning, requires an accurate and precise
understanding of, and learning from the experience of
other countries.
Study of Indian urban planning is important for many
reasons:
1- It is one of the oldest and most extensive
civilizations of the world.
2- It is characterized by the experience of conscious
urban planning, juxtaposed with the experience of
urban planning in ancient Greece.
3- Vastness of territory, colonialism and Western
theoretician's influence
