Ponc
Born in Barcelona, 1927
He
studied under Barcelona master Roman Rogent in Latter’s
studio.
His
activities as a painter in Spain were mainly channeled
through “Dau al Set” group and in connection with its
magazine. His works in those days, intentionally
illustrative, portrayed a world full of fantasy and
suffering, morbidity and poetry.
His surrealist background was quite obvious. In1953, he
left for Brazil, and nothing was heard of him for several
years. Then, suddenly were received the news that he had
been awarded the drawing prize in Sau Paulo Biennial.
Drawings, somewhat more schematic, have about them much of
that same poetry, which was associated with his later
works.
