Jorge
Castillo
Born
in 1936, Pontevedra
Spontaneously
self-trained in Argentina.
There
is a kind of reality that may be transformed into poetry.
This is the case with Jorge Castillo, a realist painter
that is likewise concerned with the world of dreams;
sarcastic at times but nonetheless undoubtedly
poetical.
One might say that his work shows the effects of
penetrating the realms of surrealism. Be that as it may,
he is one of the few Spanish artists never to have
believed in the claim that literature is a morbid
abnormality, when applied to painting. He sees painting as
a testimony of reality.
And why should we niggled over whether the reality
portrayed is poetical or literary? Castillo’s diction as
a painter is highly graphic.
