Fernando
Zobel
Born
of an Old Spanish family settled in the Philippines, in
1924 Malina
He
studied at various art schools in Philippines and United
states.
After
a figurative phase, dominated by his great talents for
linear drawing, he discovered the way to
"abstract" art.
In
1970s, his works, which are highly personal, depend on two
primary elements: Nebulosity in the pictorial features,
and a slight measure of graphics, bordering on
calligraphy. He uses them to construct a subtle world, in
which one may catch glimpses of distant oriental
references.
Fernando
Zobel is the owner of the collection of Spanish abstract
art, which is housed in Cuenca "Modern Art
Museum", of which he is the main promoter.
