Cuixart
Born
in Barcelona, 1925
As
most of the members of “Dau al Set”, his training as a
painter was both spontaneous and personal. He did in fact
belong to the group, which grew up around the magazine of
that name launched by Joan Brossa.
He also breathed the air of that same surrealism, or
Para-surrealism, which was aesthetically characteristic of
the entire group. Then after a lapse of inactivity,
Cuixart returned to art as a professional painter. He
toyed with a certain brand of non-formalism, giving it a
somewhat magical and totem like quality.
This caused him to discover again his dream world. He has
several exhibitions in Europe and America. In 1959 he won
the principal international painting award at V Sao Paulo
Biennial.
