Born
in 1923, Barcelona
He
studied at Fine Arts School in Barcelona.
After
adopting figuration of a kind that was slightly avant-grade,
because of a fleeting “Fauvist” presence, he went on
the investigation of volume along lines roughly suggested
by cubism. This stage has given away to abstraction.
Rafols,
who has ever been a non-formalist in the strict meaning of
the term, does, however, produce a type of painting that
is characterized by freedom.
We
are shown vast spaces of painting gazing across at each
other, while technique reveals a keen of chromatic
matching.
His
1970s inclusion of certain heterogeneous elements in
“collage” manner, has meant the gradual alignment of
his works with “Pop” art tendencies.
