Bahabad is in the central part of Bafq Township. The name
means “the best of town”. “Ismailieh”, a rebel
group that fought Mongol’s rule over Iran in 13th
century, had established strong fortifications in Bahabad.
When the Mongol ruler, Holakou, led a campaign to suppress
Ismailieh, his army virtually razed to ground both the
city and their fortifications, whose remains may still be
visited near the present-day Bahabad.
But the town flourished again, however, and its
Congregational Mosque with a unique grandeur of its own is
a site to visit for those interested in glorious
historical buildings.
