Mosque of the 72 Persons (Shah Mosque)
It is located in the first of Bazaar. It consists of a
main terrace and four smaller ones, which are
symmetrically placed around the main terrace and possess
doorways to inside; two minarets in to corners of the
building; a square space with 4 arches in the center; a
small square chamber in the East; halls and walkways on
the sides; a high tiling dome (doubled) with cornices and
paintings on the body.
This building was built in 1435 AD, by Iranian architect
"Shamseddin Mohammad Tabrizi" and its
distinction is its tiles and cornices. Wall coverings are
decorated with attractive mosaic tiles. On the walls of
the terrace, on a cornice, there is Thulth script written
on an ultramarine background.
As well as cornices, walls, arches and sides of minarets
are decorated with mosaic tiles bearing different artistic
drawings, such as Arabesque.
Initially, this mosque was the tomb, built by "Amir
Malek" Shah, ruler of Tous, in the reign of "Oloq
Beig" between 1387-1379 Ad. He died in 1409 Ad, after
being appointed to the govern ship of Kharazm, and his body
transported to Meshed and buried in this tomb. In 1435 AD,
in the era of "Abolqasem Babor", the tomb was
completed and decorated.
With attention to contents of the articles, the specifics
of the building and the graves founded underneath the
dome, it could be accepted that the tomb has changed into
a mosque later and have had its name from "Malek
Shah".
