If you draw a line
between Hamadan, Kermanshah and then down to Khoram-abad
and back, you have what may be called "Golden
Triangle" of ancient Persia. Inside it are the
following:
- The once seven-walled city of Hamadan itself, high
summer capital of the first Persian Emperor, Cyrus the
Great
- The treasure-house mounds of Noushijan, Baba Jan,
Godin, Giyan, Ganj Dareh and countless other archeological
remains, including Harsin, site of the famous "Lorestan
Bronzes"
- The 700-year-old potters' village of Lalijan
- The mysterious temple of "Anahita"
- The grottoes of Taq Bostan and bas-reliefs of Bisotun,
which are some of the best preserved masterpieces of
Persia's artisans
And through this Golden Triangle, once passed "Silk
Road" (Silk Route) to China and "Royal
Road" of Achaemenian, still good in spots.
Hamadan-Kermanshah area is no doubt one of the most
picturesque, scenic and pleasant in all Iran. Its
importance as one of the country's richest archeological
treasure-houses is complemented by thoroughly inviting and
convenient setting.
