These areas have broad
selection of exclusive shopping plazas, restaurants, night
clubs, hotels, the capital's oldest and largest park,
Chapultepec and excellent museums. One of them
particularly worth visiting in September and October is
"Rufino Tamayo Museum", which is
celebrating, between August 26 and October 31, the
centenary of the eponymous Oaxacan painter's birth.
Aside from the international collection the artist amassed
in his lifetime, the museum is featuring an exhibit called
"Tamayo", His Idea of Man, containing 57
works of his from 1928 to 1990 based on this theme. From
his self-portrait "Boy in Blue' of 1928 to his last
oil painting "Boy with Violin", exhibition
emphasizes the artist's search for answer to questions by
people of his generation.
Bosque de Chapultepec
Once the relaxing retreat of Aztec kings, the park today
is popular weekend hangout for families.
Castillo de Chapultepec
Sitting on top of Chapulin (Grasshopper) hill, the castle
is, so to speak, the cornerstone of Chapultepec Park. Once
the residence of Maximilian of Hapsburg and a number of
Mexican presidents, also used as military college. Since
1939, it has housed "National History Museum".
Lagos de Chapultepec
Two of the lakes have restaurants for fine dining with
view, while the third offers row boats for hire.
Parquez de Diversiones
Chapultepec has three large
amusement areas: La Feria (mechanical rides), Atlantis
(marine shows) and El Rollo (aquatic sports).
Zoologico de Chapultepec
Some 1800 animals of 260 species live in modern
installations suited to their growth and reproduction, as
well as to ideal viewing by visitors.
Corredor Comercial de Masaryk
Masaryk, the main thoroughfare of Polanco, is lined with
plush tore selling the world's and Mexico's top-brand
clothing, jewelry, perfume and automobiles. Chic
restaurants and gourmet delicatessens are other familiar
landmarks on Masaryk strip.
Lomas de
Chapultepec
Exclusive residential area, where many houses have
neo-baroque face. In the more modern sections are some
spectacular homes, office buildings and malls.
Santa Fe
One of the city's newest mall, with all the leading
department stores and boutiques, movie theatres and all
kinds of restaurants. In the immediate vicinity, the Iberoamericana
University and large corporate complex.
