Casa Loma is the renowned castle of romance and elegance
of bygone era at Toronto. This majestic landmark is the
unique legacy of Sir Henry Mill Pellatt, prominent
Canadian financier, industrialist and military officer of
the early 20th century. knighted by King Edward VII, Sir
Henry achieved the rank of Major General in Queen's Own
Rifles, one of Canada's oldest regiments.
He amassed his fortune in such diverse fields as
transportation, real estate, electricity and insurance and
was generous supporter of many worthy causes before his
financial empire crumbled.
On the brow of a hill, overlooking Toronto, the striking
silhouette of massive castle dominates the skyline and
stirs the imagination. Based on long-life fascination with
European castles, Sir Henry borrowed the most pleasing
elements of Norman, Gothic and Romanesque styles to create
Casa Loma.
Both formal and informal gardens adorn the beautifully
landscaped grounds beckoning visitor on leisurely stroll
through this splendid six acre estate. At every turn
scenes are delighted by dancing fountains, unusual
sculpture and dazzling everchanching colors of Canadian
garden.
One would enter world of imperia grace and splendor when
steps back in time-back to a time when Sir Henry and Lady
Pellatt called Casa Loma home. You are greeted in Great
Hall, the central point of the castle, with its soaring
oak-beamed ceiling.
Marvel at the beauty of stained glass in the castle's
Conservatory, discover Pellat family crest in Library ceiling,
and observe the intricate carving of the paneled Oak Room.
Breath-taking view of the city will reward the adventurous
who climb the turreted towers. And luxurious carriage room
and stables connected to the castle by 800 ft tunnel are
not be missed.
